Who are we?

Working to Bridge the Gap Between Generations

YEG Seniors Project (YSP)  is an initiative Meera founded in early COVID 19 to give back to her community, alongside the significant impacts that seniors faced at such a crucial time. Despite restrictive measures, YSP’s foundation is built on creativity and innovation, finding outlets and projects to empower the community and spotlight seniors. We continue to work on multiple projects for the future, so stay tuned!!

Making A Difference One Step At A Time

Mother's Day and Father's Day Drive-By Parade

In May/June 2020, we held a Mother’s Day and Father’s Day drive-by parade where community members created empowering posters and celebratory messages for seniors at two retirement facilities.

COVID Compassion Cards Project

Our Compassion Cards Project involved many Edmonton public schools, businesses, community organizations and members creating handmade cards with special messages to seniors. With over 3,500 cards, they were distributed across the city to local seniors and included in various projects. YSP has also been creating personalized birthday cards for seniors of a local retirement residence for every month.

Companion Calls Program

Our Companion Calls Program has connected community members with seniors for weekly phone calls, creating a lasting and impactful connection within the community. Mary (left) and Bill (right) have become great friends through our Companion Calls Program!

Baskets of Love Project

The Baskets of Love Project, with the help of Edmonton Community Foundation - Young Edmonton Grants, supported the creation of 350 wellness baskets for Edmonton Meals on Wheels senior clients.

Compassion Care packages

Recently, we have created 100 Compassion Care Packages for Edmonton Aborginal Seniors Center, with the support of the RisingYouth Grant, where we have been able to support Indigenous business owners, and provide our appreciation for our local Aborignal elders.

More projects on the way...

Our social media platform allows us to stay connected and engaged with community members, while targeting younger demographics to encourage participation in the local community with our content and our opportunities. We will keep you updated on our projects coming up such as the partnership between Community Service Learning (CSL) at the University of Alberta with us.
